5 Days and 5 Nights Do-It-Yourself Tour in Singapore

Working in a Public School can be so stressful, pressure and tiring sometimes. Given us 2 months’ vacation is our chance for us to see and travel the wonders of God's Creation. I and my colleague dared ourselves to travel internationally. That was our first international tour unguided and without clear itinerary. But it’s amazing how we survived the tour in Singapore bringing only 336 SGD that is about 11,500 pesos. Below are our itinerary and expenses in our DIY Tour in Singapore.

Pre-Departure Activities:

Prior to flying we prepared necessary documents needed for the purposes in the immigration. That was our first flight so we took every documents needed for us to fly securely. We processed out Authority to travel which is very vital document in immigration since we are working in the Government. Our Service Record, certificate of employment is also prepared on hand. Our return flight ticket and accommodation for our whole stay in SG. We even prepared our Bank Statement for worst case scenario that the Immigration will look for our financial capacity considering Singapore as the Most Expensive City in the World. And please do not forget to bring also your valid company ID they will look for it.

Expenses:

6,900 - Plane Ticket
2,000 - Accommodation
1,620 - Airport Tax
700 - Terminal Fee
75 - Bus Fare to Airport

Day 1:

We arrived at the Changi Airport around 10:00 PM, upon arriving we proceed immediately at the Immigration. Surprisingly, they did not look for any documents during our arrival. We go straight ahead to the MRT station in Terminal 2; the MRT is located below T2 and T3. The MRT do not accepts cash as payment so we bought their MRT card which cost SGD 5.00 and Top up of SGD 7.00. From Changi to Tanah Merah we interchange MRT going to Lavander Street where our hostel is located and ride a taxi going to our hostel. We checked in at the Travelers Loft around 12:00 MN already.

Expenses:
12 SGD - MRT Card Net Flash
5 SGD - Dinner
2 SGD - Taxi

 Day 2:

Without clear itinerary, we decided to hit Orchard Road to bought cheap packaged attractions tickets at Lucky Plaza. From our hostel to ride Bus number 65 going to Orchard. The street is a 1.5 Km long stretched composed of branded shopping malls like Prada, Channel, LV and etc. Due to amazement we took every chance to capture a picture at The Orchard.

Attraction Tickets Bought at Lucky Plaza:

79 SGD = Universal Studios and Two Way Cable Car from Harbor front to Sentosa.
55 SGD = Gardens by the Bay, Marina Skypark, and River Cruise

Their Tour Packages
After buying tickets, we decided to walk the street from Orchard to Bugis Street that is Approximately 2.5 km. Along the way; we visited the Singapore National Museum and Singapore Arts Museum. There is no entrance fee in National Museum but if you want to see their history room you need to buy an entrance fee which is 12 SGD and luckily there is no entrance fee during our visit at Singapore Arts Museum.

We arrived at Bugis Street around 7 pm, amazingly their 7 Pm is as bright as 4 PM in the Philippines and there is no time difference.  I bought initial pasalubong at Bugis street, if you are planning to buy cheap souvenirs have it at the bugis street and if you want to buy cheap chocolates Orchard is the right place for you.

Day 3:

I consider our third day as the best in our Tour. As early as 11 am we traveled from Boon Keen to Harbor front for our Sentosa and USS tour. Before going to the cable car we stroll around first at Vivo City and somebody told me that the lunch at Universal Studio will cost you 18 SGD so to avoid the expenses we took our lunch first at the Vivo City. From harborfront ride a cable car going to sentosa, riding a cable car is just one of the options going to sentosa. From Jurong Bird Park where the cable car stopped, we ride a bus going to Universal Studios for free. A bit of advice in going to USS please spent your whole day in the USS alone and never miss any ride. A guarantee, you will really enjoy the park.

Unfortunately, our fourth day was poured with heavy rain and we were stranded at certain mall in Jurong East. But it does not hinder our eagerness to visit the science center. Past 2 pm when we arrived at the museum, the science center will cost you 15 SGD entrance fee and The Snow City 17 SGD. We spent our 2 hours strolling at Snow City and Science Center Museum before going back to Bay front for our Gardens by the Bay. The Gardens by the bay will make your eyes full by the beauty of man-made garden creations. Our booked ticket attractions will give you the access to the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest which is the highlight of the Gardens by the Bay. A tip of advice, the gardens is best to be visited during night time as the Solar Powered Super Trees will light in the evening.

Day 5:

Our tour will not be complete without the mandatory shots at the Merlion. Around 10 am when we departed from Lavander to Bayfront for our Skypark and River Cruise. Skypark is located at the third tower of Marina Bay Sands Hotel. At the park you will see the panoramic view of Singapore, you can even see the aerial view of Gardens by The Bay. The time still permits us to stroll around Marina Shops and the river Cruise at Marina Bay. We ended our cruise at Merlion Park and took some photos before going to Promenade and St. Andrews Cathedral. We visited again the orchard road to buy our last wave of Pasalubong. Our last day ended at around 4 pm, we traveled back to the hostel to get our things and fly back to Changi Airport.
